TUTORIAL GROUPS
School Organisation
Students are organised into three years 7, 8, and 9. Each student is allocated to a Tutorial Group. The first 20 minutes of each day with the exception of Assembly Day, are spent with the Tutor.
Tutors:
support and monitor each students learning, effort and behaviour
register the students in the morning
give them relevant information
hold devotions
handle any difficulties which individual students may have.
contact parents
Tutors usually stay with their Tutor group for three years. They develop a close relationship with the students in their group as well as with their parents and guardians.
Tutors are the first point of contact between parents/guardians and the school.
There are 12 Tutor Groups in Year 9 and 16 groups in each of Years 7 and 8 with approximately 24 students (boys and girls) of mixed ability in each group.
All students are allocated to one of 4 Houses (Jupiter, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune). Each of the 4 Houses has a Head of House who is responsible for House activities.
Some subjects are taught in Mixed Ability groups ( Music, Art, Home Economics, Drama, Information and Communication Technology and P.E.)
In other subjects students are placed in Sets or Bands according to performance.
Placements are monitored twice yearly.
