CAYMAN ISLANDS MIDDLE SCHOOL - 1979-1992
The Cayman Islands Middle School opened its doors in September 1979.
There was an enrolment of 233 children and 14 teachers. The school opened
with ten classrooms, administrative office space and one pavilion.
In 1980 the second phase of the Middle School was completed and the intake
for that year group was 263 pupils. Phase 2 became the math, science,
woodwork, home economics areas and a second pavilion.
Official opening was on December 11, 1981.
Many of the rooms in Phase 3 were smaller as they were intended to be used by
those students needing a little more help with their learning. The number
of rooms had increased to 43.
In the Christmas Term (1982-1983) academic year, Phase 4, the admin. offices
were complete. The Principal's and Deputy Principal's office for the
senior tutors, reprographical facilities, reception area, staff room, sick bay
and a small dental clinic are housed in this building.
Phase 5 which consisted of three art rooms,
two technology rooms and a machine shop were completed for September 1983.
As well, the old woodwork room was
converted into a second home economics area.
During the academic year, 1984-1985, two music rooms, two science
laboratories and the hall were completed. This allowed students to benefit
by being taught music and science in rooms especially designed for the purpose.
1991-1992 was the last year of the Middle School's existence.
