Aims of the School
The school’s overall aim is to provide an environment conducive to the development of well rounded young citizens and to help them develop intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually in such a way that they will be able to adjust to varying situations that society may impose upon them.
To this end we:
encourage self-discipline, self confidence, self respect and personal reflection.
encourage an awareness of the worth and value of others.
develop an appreciation of the richness of human nature and natural beauty as well as a pride in national culture and heritage.
enable students to make progress and experience success in learning and co-operating with others.
seek to identify and develop individual talents.
seek to involve parents, guardians and the community in the life of the school.
The school has developed a site plan which complements the National Education Plan. The site plan identifies amongst others the following shared ‘beliefs’:
effective communication is essential for the successful operation of the school.
emphasis should be placed on non-academic areas (vocational & extra-curricular) as well as academic.
a co-ordinated disciplined environment is necessary for learning.
Equal Opportunities
The school recognises that everyone is unique and should be treated with respect regardless of their background, religion, colour, race, disability or gender.
We will do our very best to ensure that all students are given equal access to the curriculum and that all have the opportunities to succeed and develop their individual talents to the full.
Meeting Individual Needs
Pupils with individual needs range from the least able to the very able and include students with emotional and behavioral difficulties. Provision is made for students with physical difficulties.
Some students have specific educational needs which may be any of the following: dyslexia, speech and language disorders, hearing and visual impairment.
For some lessons a second member of staff may be present to assist those students with specific difficulties. Senior Tutors operate a ‘learning support’ programme whereby they assist students with particular behavioral difficulties in the classroom environment.
Two full time Counsellors are on staff to help deal with emotional and other difficulties. Students may approach Counselling staff on their own accord or they may be referred by teaching staff.
Charges for School Activities/Educational Visits
Students are charged $30 each year to offset some of the costs involved in Home Economics and Technology classes. Students may take away any food they prepare or anything they make in Technology. The payment should be made at the beginning of the first term each year and should be given to the students Tutor who will issue a receipt.
Occasionally there may be a charge for transportation if students are going on a field trip or a visit. Parents will receive a permission letter from the teacher concerned together with all information associated with the visit. Students will not be able to go on a visit if the permission slip is not returned to the teacher concerned prior to the commencement of the trip.
There are no charges for organized After-School activities on the school campus.
All students are required to carry ID cards. A charge of $5 is payable to defray costs. This should be paid to the students Tutor who will issue a receipt.
School Fees and Book Rental Fees
Non Caymanian students are required to pay school fees of $300 each term.
All Caymanian students must pay a book rental fee of $100 per year.
School fees and book rental must be paid at the Education Department before a child can be accepted for registration in school. Receipts must be at hand if required.
Students who have any outstanding fees will be unable to take part in the Year 9 Awards and Leaving Ceremony.
